Most of the models we use truly understand the value of an ONA–because they’re often photographers themselves! One example is the gorgeous Jennifer Czyborra: we featured her in our Summer 2013 lifestyle shoot for the Bowery and the Bolton Street, as well as the Chelsea Bag product video. As much as we love working with Jennifer in front of the camera, she’s usually behind the lens as a noted fashion and beauty photographer in New York City.
ONA: How did you get into photography?
JC: I fell in love with photography when I had stumbled upon a stack of vintage Life magazines at age 11. I loved the idea of being able to freeze a beautiful moment. Like many photographers, I originally wanted to go into journalism, but somewhere along the road I made my way to fashion, beauty and advertising.
ONA: What camera do you shoot with? What is your “go to” lens of choice?
JC: My preferred camera is a hasselblad with a p45 digital back, 80mm or 150mm lens. My everyday go-to is my Canon 5d Mark iii with a 50mm or 85mm lens. And of course, I love breaking out my old Canon AE-1. P.S. I always prefer a fixed lens over a zoom lens!
ONA: What sort of project drives your creativity?
JC: I know this may sound like a generic answer, but every project drives my creativity. Every job has its own challenges that you need to navigate through lighting, styling and composition.
ONA: What is the hardest thing about being a photographer?
JC: Making yourself stand out against the rest, what is it that makes you a desirable photographer to work with?
ONA: In one sentence, what advice would you give to a photographer just starting out?
JC: Assist as many photographers as possible, what you’ll learn from them is priceless. Most of all, have a great attitude!
ONA: How did you hear about us?
JC: Through the lovely Nina Westervelt (editorial note: Nina took the first two photos and the last photo of Jennifer as part of an ONA shoot).
